Popular Styles of Evening Dresses

Whatever the occasion there is a great choice of evening dresses on offer.  With prices ranging from around £40 – more expensive for designer labels – stylish and elegant gowns can be found on the High Street and online.

It’s important to consider whether the dress will be worn mainly for informal or formal occasions, friendly parties with friends or exclusive upmarket events.  Do you feel more comfortable wearing classic, simple, flowing lines, or do your tastes run to exotic shimmering satins with embellishments?  If your figure is curvier, stunning colours and tight fitting gowns can emphasise your shape, becoming unflattering.

Most shops have a fantastic array of evening dresses, whether you’re dressing for a ball, party or cocktails.  If your tastes are conservative, a Warehouse chic black over the knee dress in black would be great, or for the fashionista an Aftershock Belini gown in fuschia is a real show stopper!  Both are priced under £100.

The classic black dress is a must when it comes to evening dresses as it can be dressed up or down by choosing accessories for the occasion.  By teaming it with a gilt link belt and chunky bracelet, the dress would be ideal wear for a small friendly party with friends.  If the event is more formal, team with an elegant beaded evening bag and stylish high-heeled sandals.

Designer evening dresses are much more pricey – an elegant Donna Karan silk chiffon handkerchief dress in misty blue would set you back £1800, but would grace the most exclusive occasion.  For timeless elegance a full length flowing ivory silk chiffon gown by Matthew Williamson would last through the seasons.

Take time window shopping and try dresses on, ask a friend’s opinion.  Check out sales and look for bargains, great deals are available.  There is so much choice, you’re sure to find the ideal gown.
